Spring Weather Tips for Goldendoodles.
I just love March. January and February winter is still lingering around teasing us with warm days, then the very next day it’s snowing 3 inches out of the blue. This is how Utah has always been. So being in tune with the weather is something I would have to pay attention to since i’m now owner of this fuzzy goldendoodle Dog. Spring is honestly the best with having a Goldendoodle. RickyBobby doesn’t get as many walks and runs during the winter so I know he loves the Spring time as well because he knows he’s going to go for a walk or run almost everyday. I would try to mix it up and go to different walk paths, and different dog parks for my dog. Honestly just get out and run in an open field with your Dog. He’s been cooped up all winter and it makes my RickyBobby so happy when we run and play in the Spring weather on an open field. Here’s some good tips for Spring activities with your Goldendoodle!
- Get social with your Goldendoodle! Get your friends and family’s animals together. Winters can be long and dogs who are alone most of the time, really love to see other pets they know.
- Plan a new Dog walk route. I usually try and explore new streets in my neighborhood. Or sometimes we’ll hop in the car drive to a near by school and run around a few blocks there coming back to the school so Ricky Can run in the grass and play with the ball too.
- Springtime hikes! I love taking my Goldendoodle on hikes, not as much as your dog will love it! In the spring here in Utah the snow usually isn’t melted yet. Be sure to take some great Dog Shoes for your Goldendoodle. After a while the snow can really hurt their paws. I bought these Dog Shoes from Amazon and they have been great for RickyBobby on long walks and always keep his feet warm and never frostbitten. Just remember Springtime can be tricky, you need to prepare your Goldendoodle for Winter weather effects and Summer Winter Effects so all in all be very aware of the weather conditions, and what your activity entails you do not want to be caught in a spot that could harm you or your puppy.
Summertime Goldendoodle Reminders.

A Dog in the summer time is something we have to remind ourselves as owners that it’s hot. Like really hot. especially in a desert heat like Utah. The first summer we had our Goldendoodle Rickybobby I learned this the hard way. It was June, so In the morning it’s pretty cool here and sits around 60 Degrees in the morning. So you automatically think it’s going to be a cool day, but remember it isn’t. Doing our normal run seemed like a good idea at the time. By the time I finally got into my running shoes and dressed ready to go. . I couldn’t find my Dog leash. Ok neat… So finally when we were both ready to head out it was already 11:10 am. The temperature here in Utah was already hitting 79 Degrees. . We headed out and everything seemed fine. Not even halfway through our normal 3 mile run, RickyBobby was overheating and wanting to find any grass he could to just plop and laydown in. It’s only been 15 minutes, but with the way his hair was at the time. The temperature and the run itself had already had my Puppy close to overheating.. To be honest my unaware of everything side of me took over and I was upset and mad at my dog for slowing me down and trying to find water so fast.. (I know it’s bad but I still didn’t realize how hot he was). One last plop on the cool grass, but this time he needed a minute. Right then it hit me that Goldendoodle’s are athletic, but in the summer they heat up really fast and their unique fur keeps their tempature high. Just remember to really look at the forecast, look at the sky. Here’s a few tips for those hot summers with your Goldendoodle Dog.
“Summertime is the best of what might be“
-Charles Bowden
- Check weather forecast and also visually check the sky I love using Weather.com
- Be sure temperatures aren’t above 85 Degrees, and the hot summer sun isn’t to bright. The pavement can really burn your Doodle’s Paws.
- Have plenty of water for your activity for you and your Goldendoodle. I use this great Dog Travel water bottle we got from Amazon.
- Periodically take breaks! Find a cool spot under a tree, or just find some shade and get your Goldendoodle some water.
- Summer walks don’t forget you’re dog friendly Travel pack. I like to bring dog treats, plenty of water, & Poop Bags.
- Summer is one of the more dangerous times, depending on where you live. If you live in AZ, NV, NM, UT I would keep an eye out for really hot pavement. The ground itself can get very hot schoring your puppy’s paws. In the summer we sometimes will use Dog boots, to keep his paws from getting burnt.
Fall Weather Tips for Goldendoodles.

Fall weather is the best. . You start to feel the heat cool down a little bit. Of course the color way of the tree line is amazing to look at here in Utah around the month of September. Yellow, orange, green, Hints of purple littered throughout your view with the immense Rocky Mountains as the backdrop. Now imagine you and your Goldendoodle dog out for a run on the trails witnessing this amazing sunset.. Especially up the canyon here in the Salt Lake Valley you and your dog will appreciate the cooler weather to play and have fun in. My Goldendoodle absolutely loves the fall, probably as much as I do. Around this time I start to let his curls grow out a whole bunch more. We can take the dog boots off his feet on our runs. Still a few reminders about Fall weather with your Goldendoodle.
- Fall does bring cooler temperatures, check the weather though it can still be very hot especially pavement.
- Fall can also bring cold temperatures & snow Depending where you are, last thing you want is to get caught in a snow storm!
- Leaves are beautiful but be careful! My Goldendoodle’s paws once did get stuck with a few leaf stems so just be aware of that, they are easy to get out of his paws for the most part.
- Goldendoodle’s love to play in the leaves during fall. The cooler temperatures are ideal for their unique curly hair. Just be sure to watch the weather for either Summer type of temps, or even Winter Temperatures as well.
- Have fun! We create leaf piles, and i’ll throw his favorite dog toy in the pile and he loves to fetch it out. My Goldendoodle loves to run on the trails in the fall and search for Marmots and meet other dogs to sniff!
Winter Goldendoodle Dog Reminders.

Winters in Utah are long and can be pretty harsh. Wintertime is such magical time for a puppy after a long hot year. Goldendoodle’s love to play in the snow, roll around in it and of course get the classic “Zoomy’s” back and forth through the snow as an all time favorite for our Goldendoodle. When you wake up to that first big storm it’s always so fun to watch your Goldendoodle go out for his/hers normal morning potty break. You open the door and bam, 12 inches of snow! Watching my goldendoodle walk out and plop into the snow was so funny. Rickybobby and I have run into trouble when dealing with Winter, here are a few reminders when the weather starts getting colder. Here are the top Winter reminders for owning a Goldendoodle Dog.
- Snow fall adds up on Goldendoodles: Because of the unique hair Goldendoodle’s have they aren’t built to last long in a heavy snowfall. The snow can clump up on their fur and won’t melt away it just keeps adding and frozen curls can happen in just 15 minutes even! If you must be out long in a snowstorm I recommend this Goldendoodle Jacket that kept his core dry and warm! Link here to best Dog jacket on Amazon.
- Protect your Goldendoodle’s Feet: Obviously with the ice and snow their paws aren’t built to last long either. What’s even worse is with a lot of ground salt used, those salt Rocks can get deep into your Goldendoodle’s paws. We use our summer doggie shoes to protect against salt, and ice and snow. Link here for Winter shoes.
- Limit your Goldendoodle’s time outside: Depending on how cold it is, but especially if and when it’s below freezing. I wouldn’t keep your goldendoodle outside for more than 30 minutes max. Even if you have a doggie jacket and doggie boots. Their human like curls don’t insulate them as well as traditional dog hair. I would not allow your puppy to get frostbitten!
Final thoughts to protect your Goldendoodle from weather.

I feel like i’m overreacting and I probably am.. As a new puppy owner can you blame me? I even feel like owning a Goldendoodle you have to take extra care and caution. Just speaking from experience, I just had a few scary moments in the first year or two in owning my Goldendoodle puppy. No matter the weather forecast, always go outside and feel the heat or cold for yourself. That way you can really hone in on preparing the right way for your day with the Dog. Pack your backpack or have something to carry water, Paw-booties, dog jacket for your Goldendoodle not just you.
